Northern Train to Chiang Mai Breaks Down, Passengers Evacuate Amidst Chaos
A special express train bound for Chiang Mai in northern Thailand made an emergency stop in Lampang province due to an engine malfunction. A TRAIN heading for Chiang Mai came to a sudden halt in Lampang this afternoon (July 11) after an engine malfunctioned with the hundred fearful passengers chaotically evacuating with their luggage, Amarin TV said this evening. At approximately 4.40 p.m. passersby saw passengers of this train hastily unloading their luggage under the Kasetmek overpass at Phra Bat subdistrict, Mueang district, Lampang. They then had to cross the railing to the roadside and were transferred to buses to continue their journey to Chiang Mai. Later, officials of State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Region 3 (Northern Line) explained that it was the Special Express Train No. 7 (Bangkok Aphiwat – Chiang Mai), which experienced engine failure between Nong Wua Thao station in Phra Bat subdistrict and Lampang station. As a result, the train was unable to continue its journey. SRT officials have brought in jacks, hoists, and specialised equipment to urgently remove the malfunctioning engine from the second of a total of three carriages.
