Pailin Province Donates Offerings to Monks During Rainy Season, Emphasizing Buddhist Support

In Pailin Province, Cambodia, on July 22, 2026, provincial government officials and representatives presented essential goods and cash to monks observing their rainy season retreat. The ceremony, held at Wat Rattana Sophon (also known as Wat Kaong Kang) in Pailin village, Pailin commune, Pailin city, benefited monks from 34 temples across the province. His Excellency I Chhean, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Government Working Group for Pailin Province, accompanied by Her Excellency Dr. Ban Sreymom, Governor of Pailin Province, and other leaders and officials, led the donation. Deputy Prime Minister I Chhean stated that the seventh-term government under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet continues to place significant emphasis on the progress and harmony of religions. He highlighted that both the Buddhist clergy and the secular administration are developing in tandem under an atmosphere of peace, political stability, and development across all sectors, which drives the improvement of devotees' livelihoods and the continuous growth of pagodas. Deputy Prime Minister I Chhean further explained that the monks' observance of the rainy season retreat is a crucial period for monks and novices to diligently study Buddhist scriptures and practice the Vinaya (monastic discipline) for three months, starting from the first day of the waning moon of Asadha until the full moon of Asho. The donation of provisions and cash to monks observing this retreat is intended to alleviate their difficulties while they practice Dharma and study the teachings of the Buddha. Concurrently, HE I Chhean urged citizens to remain highly vigilant against natural disasters to ensure their personal safety and the well-being of their families. He noted that this season experiences heavy rainfall, often accompanied by strong winds and lightning, which can lead to accidents. He advised that in case of any incidents, local authorities should be promptly informed for immediate intervention and provision of emergency relief to mitigate temporary hardships. It is noted that the donations to the 34 temples in Pailin Province included Vassa candles, rice, drinking water, fruit juices, milk, fish sauce, canned fish, instant noodles, tea, sugar, and a sum of money for each temple.
