Cambodian Border Forces Seize Smuggled Frozen Meat and Yogurt from Thailand

Cambodian border forces have successfully intercepted smuggled frozen meat and yogurt illegally imported from Thailand along border areas in Banteay Meanchey province. The operation is part of the authorities' intensified crackdown on illegal cross-border trade and illicit goods. Around 3:30 PM on September 7, the 807th Ground Border Guard Police Force cracked down on smuggled frozen meat from Thailand, found hidden behind the O’Kombut School near the border in O’Kombut village, Thmar Pouk district. The seized items included approximately one ton of frozen meat and processed products such as rat meat, chicken innards, and fish cakes, packed in 56 cartons and one case. The owner of the goods fled the scene upon the arrival of the authorities. The confiscated goods were destroyed according to legal procedures. Separately, around 4:20 PM on the same day, a joint border defense force in Malai district patrolled and discovered two bags of Blueberry yogurt, equivalent to 8 cases, near a border stream in Thmey village, Ou Sralau commune, Malai district. These illegal goods are suspected to have been smuggled from Thailand via unofficial routes. After the crackdown, the items were handed over to the 815th Ground Border Guard Police for further legal proceedings. The seizures occurred as Cambodian authorities and border officials are strengthening their oversight and prevention of cross-border crimes and the import of illegal goods along the Cambodia-Thailand border. Major General Seng Tharin, Chief of Staff of the Fifth Military Region, commented on social media that cross-border offenses continue to occur and warned perpetrators that escaping now does not mean they will evade the law permanently.
