Vietnam Seeks Enhanced Dialogue and Cooperation with US Trade Representative

The Party General Secretary and President of Vietnam met with the US Trade Representative in New York, expressing hope that meetings and cooperation during the trip would help create more new bridges of dialogue, trust, cooperation, and mutual understanding. The discussions aimed to connect trade, technology, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, enabling Vietnam to continue reaching out to the world with confidence, openness, and a strong sense of responsibility. Do Ngoc Hung, Trade Counsellor and head of the Vietnam Trade Office in the US, highlighted the increasingly deep economic ties between the two countries, not just in trade volume. He noted that processing and manufacturing, particularly electronics, machinery, and equipment, continued to drive export growth, with trade flows remaining robust. The official also pointed out the competitiveness of Vietnamese packaged food, beverages, and fruits, suggesting that building large-scale import chains could expand sales and lay the foundation for long-term commercial cooperation. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang welcomed US businesses to invest and operate in Vietnam, stating that the Southeast Asian country seeks partnerships based on co-creation, not merely attracting investment capital. This reflects Vietnam's strategy to engage with the global community with confidence and responsibility. Vietnam's economic growth remains strong, driven by its processing and manufacturing sectors. Efforts are underway to improve infrastructure and supply chain efficiency, with ongoing projects like the development of a key transport corridor connecting Phu Quoc International Airport with the APEC Convention Centre. The country is also focused on strengthening engagement with the international investment community. Improvements in service sectors were also noted, with SPA's debut in the Skytrax international airline awards and rankings. Furthermore, technology cooperation between Vietnam and Canada is evolving beyond idea exchange towards building a shared innovation ecosystem leveraging complementary strengths. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes economic growth and actively seeks foreign investment while fostering domestic industries.
