Some schools and rural health centers reopened in Hlaingbwe Township as water receded

Some schools and rural health centers have reopened in Hlaingbwe Township as the water has receded, and the Myanmar Fire Brigade and relevant departments are cooperating to carry out school cleaning activities to enable the remaining schools to reopen, it is learned. Due to heavy rainfall and mountain runoff, the Attaran River overflowed, causing floods in villages along the riverbanks, including Hlaingbwe town, for nearly the entire month of August. Due to these floods, 35 basic education schools and 7 rural health centers in Hlaingbwe Township had to be temporarily closed. Although 5 high schools, 11 middle schools, and 19 primary schools in Hlaingbwe Township were temporarily closed due to floods, now that the water has receded since the beginning of September, the primary schools in Kaopyi village, Kaopran village tract, Hlaingbwe Township, and the primary schools in Kaodone village, Kaopanaw village tract, have been reopened since September 4, according to an official from the Township Education Department. The official further stated, "In addition, the primary school in Kada village (Kada Village Main), the middle school in Khrom village (Khrom), the primary school in Taenar village (Taenar West), the No. 2 primary school in Shin Saw Pu ward, and the Basic Education Kindergarten (1) have also been reopened since September 7." Similarly, in schools that were flooded during the flood, after the water receded, cleaning activities are being carried out by the Myanmar Fire Department, relevant departments, teachers, and local residents to remove the mud and dirt remaining in the school classrooms, the official said. Furthermore, as the floodwaters of the Attaran River have receded in Hlaingbwe Township, the Hlaingbwe rural health center in Hlaingbwe village tract, the Paolaw rural health center in Attaran village tract, and the maternal and child health center in Yan Myo Aung ward, Hlaingbwe town, which were temporarily closed during the flood, have been reopened since September 7, and the remaining 4 rural health centers will also be reopened after cleaning activities are completed, according to an official from the Township Health Department. It is known that due to heavy rainfall and mountain runoff, the Attaran River has overflowed, and more than 6,600 houses in 15 wards/village tracts, including 2 wards in Hlaingbwe town along the riverbanks, were flooded, and more than 32,000 people from 6,697 households were affected by the flood.
