However, Liputan6.com's fact-checking team investigated the claim and found it to be misinformation (hoax). The claim, posted on a Facebook account on July 10, 2026, featured a photo with captions stating, "Prabowo Appoints Mahfud MD as Attorney General." Liputan6.com's investigation utilized AI detection tools, which revealed the photo was 99.9% likely generated by AI. Furthermore, a check of the official website of the Attorney General's Office (Kejaksaan.go.id) confirmed that the current Attorney General remains ST Burhanuddin. Mahfud MD himself also clarified on his personal Instagram account that the information regarding his appointment as Attorney General is a "hoax" and lacks an accurate source. He stated, "The image is edited, and the narrative is fictional. Please do not ask me further; ask the producer. I am truly unaware of this matter."
