Low pressure area and Tropical Storm Maysak's influence may cause heavy rain and high waves in some regions including Yangon

YANGON - The Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced today, July 3, that heavy rain and strong winds may occur in some regions of Myanmar due to the influence of a low pressure area in the northwest Bay of Bengal and Tropical Storm 'Maysak' in the South China Sea. The low pressure area currently located in the northern part of Odisha state, India, which is connected to the northwest Bay of Bengal, is likely to strengthen. Furthermore, according to the DMH's forecast, Tropical Storm 'Maysak', which is forming in the South China Sea to the east of Myanmar, may cross Hainan Island within the next 24 hours. Due to the momentum of these low pressure areas and tropical storms, heavy rain is expected in localized areas in Yangon Region, Bago Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kayin State, Mon State, and Rakhine State over the next two days. Additionally, as cumulonimbus clouds are forming in some regions and states, natural disasters such as strong winds, thunderstorms, lightning, and hail may occur along with rainfall, and people are urged to take precautions in advance. Regarding maritime travel, the DMH has warned that squalls and high waves may occur occasionally along the Myanmar coast and in the offshore sea. During squalls, winds on the sea and land may blow at speeds of 30 to 35 miles per hour, and wave heights may reach approximately 9 to 11 feet. Photo – DMH
