Prabowo Considers Integrating Geological Agency with BMKG, Puan Urges Prior Study

Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto is reportedly considering the integration of the Geological Agency (Badan Geologi), responsible for geological surveys, with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), which monitors and forecasts weather, climate, and geophysical phenomena. This move is seen as an effort to enhance the nation's disaster risk management and response capabilities. However, House Speaker Puan Maharani has expressed a cautious stance on the proposal. Maharani emphasized that a thorough and comprehensive study on the feasibility, potential benefits and drawbacks, and impact on public life should be conducted before proceeding with any integration.
