Vietnam Braces for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Nationwide, Flood Alert Issued for Mekong Delta

Widespread rain and thunderstorms are forecast across Vietnam from September 10th to 11th. In the Mekong Delta, rising river levels due to upstream flows from the Mekong River, combined with the king tide, are causing water levels in the lower Mekong to increase, prompting flood alerts. Some areas are expected to experience intense rainfall exceeding 100mm per hour. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reports that Thanh Hoa to Hue will receive moderate to heavy rainfall, with amounts ranging from 40mm to 100mm, and locally over 150mm. The Central Highlands and Southern regions are predicted to have moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall between 60mm and 120mm, and locally exceeding 180mm. Northern regions experienced scattered showers and thunderstorms from last night to this morning, with rainfall up to 30mm, and some areas receiving over 70mm. These rain and thunderstorm events carry the potential for tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. In the Mekong Delta, a high risk of flooding is warned for low-lying areas, riverbanks, and areas outside dikes in An Giang province. Similar risks are identified in low-lying and riverbank areas of Dong Thap, Vinh Long, and Can Tho cities. Hanoi is expected to be cloudy with scattered rain, and some areas may experience heavy downpours. The forecast high temperature is 27-30°C, with a low of 24-26°C.
