Yellow Rainfall Warning Issued for Metro Manila, 5 Luzon Areas Due to Southwest Monsoon

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau placed Metro Manila and five other areas in Luzon under a yellow rainfall warning on Wednesday due to the effects of the southwest monsoon or habagat. In its Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 18 issued at 11 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the following areas were under the yellow warning level: Areas under yellow warning tend to experience rainfall between 7.5 mm and 15 mm within one hour and can continue in the next two hours. The yellow warning level likewise indicates a need for the public to “be alert,” with flooding in flood-prone areas identified as its associated hazard, Pagasa said. Several local government units have already suspended in-person afternoon classes this Wednesday due to the forecast rains. The same rainfall conditions were affecting portions of Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Pampanga, Cavite and Metro Manila, which may persist within three hours and could affect nearby areas.
