TRACKER: Public opinion polls on Marcos, Duterte
The political rift between President Bongbong Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte continues to stir chaos in Philippine politics since 2024. This tracker monitors public trust and satisfaction ratings for both leaders from major surveys by SWS and Pulse Asia, crucial factors leading up to the 2028 presidential elections.
The political landscape in the Philippines remains in flux following the "catastrophic breakup" between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte in 2024, a political alliance under the "UniTeam" banner that has since devolved into a fierce rivalry. As the 2028 presidential elections loom, public trust and satisfaction with their performances will be key factors in how major political events unfold and how their feud ultimately ends. Who do Filipinos like more between their president and vice president? This tracker follows public opinion polls from major survey firms, the Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia, to monitor the trends. The SWS releases satisfaction ratings for the president and vice president as part of its quarterly social weather survey, a non-commissioned national survey conducted on its own initiative and released as a public service. Respondents aged 18 and above are interviewed face-to-face about their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with an official's performance. Pulse Asia also gathers public trust and performance ratings as part of its quarterly "Ulat ng Bayan" and "Pulso ng Bayan" pre-electoral national surveys. Like SWS, Pulse Asia conducts its polls through face-to-face interviews with Filipino respondents aged 18 and above, asking for their opinions on key public officials' performance over the last three months. Both SWS and Pulse Asia have conducted trust surveys for Marcos and Duterte. However, SWS surveys were commissioned by Philippine consultancy firm Stratbase Consultancy and cover only the period from July 2024 to November 2025. Pulse Asia's trust ratings are gathered alongside their performance ratings. This tracker will be updated as new survey results are released.
