Cambodia: 35 Veteran Families Receive New Homes and Land as Gift from Prime Minister
A lottery for social land concessions and new homes, gifted by the Prime Minister, was held in Cambodia's Kampong Thom province. The initiative benefits 35 veteran families lacking adequate housing or land, aiming to support their resettlement and livelihoods.
Kampong Thom, Cambodia, July 18, 2026 -- A lottery ceremony was held on the morning of July 18, 2026, for social land concessions and new homes, generously donated by Prime Minister Hun Manet and his wife Dr. Pich Chanmony. The event, presided over by H.E. Noun Pharat, Governor of Kampong Thom Province and Chairman of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association Committee for the province, provided housing and land to 35 veteran families who lack land, homes, or live in inadequate conditions. Major General Som Sun, Deputy Commander of the Regional Military Operations Area, Standing Deputy Chairman, and Head of the Secretariat of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association Committee for Kampong Thom Province, presented a report detailing the management of veterans in the province, numbering 6,741. He also outlined past initiatives, including the construction of 547 homes for disadvantaged veterans across the province, funded by former Prime Minister Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet. These include 306 houses built in various locations and 141 houses allocated through a lottery in 2021 on social land concession sites, with each family receiving 1.5 hectares. A further 65 houses were allocated in a 2024 lottery, with each family receiving 1 hectare. The current lottery provides 35 families with residential land measuring 1,250 square meters each. Major General Som Sun also requested H.E. Noun Pharat to facilitate the allocation of an additional 1 hectare of agricultural land per family for these 35 veterans. H.E. Noun Pharat expressed his profound gratitude to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, and Prime Minister Hun Manet, for their unwavering attention to the welfare and living conditions of veterans who sacrificed for peace and the nation. He also commended Major General Som Sun for his diligent efforts in serving veteran families throughout Kampong Thom province and instructed the provincial administration to collaborate with the Veterans and Retirees Association Committee to foster friendly relations with newly established families. The Governor advised the veteran families to maintain good health while residing in the "Morodok Techo Thipadei Tlok Pring" Veteran Development Center, encouraging them to engage in farming and animal husbandry to improve their livelihoods. Following the address, the 35 veteran families participated in the lottery for their social land concessions, each receiving a plot measuring 25 meters by 50 meters, a new house, and a sanitary toilet.
