Royal Vopak Explores Investment in LNG and Refinery Terminals in Cambodia
Dutch energy storage giant Royal Vopak is exploring investment opportunities for building Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Refinery Terminals in Cambodia. Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the initiative, stating it aligns with the government's vision to enhance energy security.
Mr. Chen Yan, President of Royal Vopak for China and East Asia (Koninklijke Vopak N.V.), along with his colleagues, paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on July 17, 2026. The visit coincided with Mr. Chen's participation in the World Artificial Intelligence Conference held in the People's Republic of China from July 15-17, 2026. During the meeting, Mr. Chen informed the Prime Minister about Vopak's business operations, highlighting the company's high expertise in providing infrastructure and storage solutions for oil, gas, and petrochemical products, including Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). He noted that the company focuses on several core sectors, such as new and sustainable energy storage terminals, gas storage terminals, industrial petrochemical product storage terminals, chemical storage terminals, and oil storage terminals. Mr. Chen added that Vopak is currently collaborating with partner companies in Cambodia to explore investment opportunities in building Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal and Refinery Terminal in the Kingdom. In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed Vopak's investment intentions and its cooperation with Cambodian partner companies. The Prime Minister emphasized that the plan to explore investment opportunities for LNG and Refinery Terminals aligns with the Royal Government of Cambodia's vision to develop such infrastructure to ensure future energy security for the country. Concluding the meeting, the Prime Minister encouraged Vopak to continue strengthening its close cooperation with its Cambodian partners and to pursue further detailed discussions with relevant ministries, particularly the Ministry of Mines and Energy, to bring its investment plans in Cambodia to fruition.
