King Calls for Collective Care for Elderly, Disabled, Poor, and Orphans

His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia has called upon all levels of authorities and the entire nation to collectively provide care and support for the elderly, disabled, poor, and orphaned. This appeal was made in a royal message on the occasion of 'Cambodia Elderly Day' and 'International Day of Older Persons,' observed annually on October 1st, with the aim of promoting awareness of the value, dignity, rights, and roles of older persons in society. His Majesty stated that older persons are benefactors who have laid the foundation for families and society, and are a treasure trove of knowledge and experience. He emphasized the importance of a unified effort by the government and the public to ensure they receive adequate food, healthcare, and housing within their communities. The King also pointed out that utilizing elderly care centers, temples, and religious sites to provide shelter, food, and necessary support to the elderly and needy demonstrates gratitude, filial piety, love, and respect. His Majesty expressed that these initiatives contribute to strengthening family values, morality, traditions, and solidarity within Cambodian society, fostering a society where all generations can coexist with harmony, warmth, and dignity. He conveyed his hope that the spirit of this day honoring the elderly will forever reside in the hearts of all Cambodian citizens.
