Vietnam's Pesticide Industry Marks 20 Years, Accelerating Shift to Eco-Friendly Agriculture

On August 9, the Vietnam Association of Pesticide Manufacturers and Traders (VIPA) held a ceremony in Ninh Binh to commemorate its 20th anniversary (2006-2026). On this occasion, VIPA announced several policies aimed at enhancing the sustainability of Vietnamese agriculture. Central to these efforts is the "promotion of biological pesticide development," which seeks to reduce reliance on chemical pesticides and lower environmental impact. The association also emphasized strengthening the responsibility of manufacturers and importers for the proper disposal of used pesticide packaging, a crucial measure to prevent soil and water contamination from improper waste disposal. Furthermore, the "safe, effective, and responsible use of pesticides" was highlighted. Through awareness campaigns for farmers and the promotion of safer products, the aim is to reduce risks associated with misuse or overuse of pesticides. The association also plans to align the legal framework for biological pesticides with ASEAN principles, fostering regional standardization and facilitating the supply of safer agricultural products to the international market. These initiatives signal a strategic shift for Vietnam's pesticide industry, responding to environmental challenges and the growing demand for safe food supplies. Under its one-party system, Vietnam continues to pursue economic growth while increasingly focusing on balancing environmental conservation with development, starting with its agricultural sector.
