Power supply restored to some areas in Shan (North), Kayah and Chin states as damaged power infrastructure is rebuilt due to terrorist incidents

It is reported that power supply has been restored to some areas in Shan State (North), Kayah State, and Chin State as damaged power infrastructure is being rebuilt due to terrorist incidents. In Shan State (North), nine substations, 86 transformers, and power lines were damaged and power was cut off due to terrorist attacks in Lashio, Namtu, Kyaukme, and Thibaw townships in 2024. After the Tatmadaw recaptured Lashio and Namtu townships, the ministry quickly repaired the damaged substations, power lines, and transformers, and power is now being distributed from the national grid to Namtu and Lashio townships. Furthermore, in Thibaw and Kyaukme townships, repair work on damaged substations, power lines, and transformers has been completed. Once landmine clearance and power line inspections between pylons 210 and 219 of the 66kV Mansan-Thibaw power line are completed, power will be distributed from the national grid to Thibaw and Kyaukme townships. Currently, Thibaw is supplied with six hours of electricity per day from two diesel generators, and Kyaukme is supplied with electricity from the 2 MW Nam Saung Gwaung small hydropower plant to important areas in the city and some public areas. Efforts are underway to resume normal power distribution from the national grid. Similarly, in Loikaw city, Kayah State, 13837 households in Loikaw city, Loilinlay city, Lawpita city, and 30 villages have had their power restored after the repair of the 132kV Loikaw main substation, three 33kV substations, 73 transformers, and power lines damaged by terrorist activities. In Demoso Township, a 33kV substation, transformers, and power lines were damaged by terrorists. As a first phase of repair, 11kV power lines have been repaired, restoring power to two villages and important locations within the township. The repair of the 33kV 10MVA Yatanshay substation in Loikaw city has been completed within the first 100-day plan of the new government, and efforts will continue to restore power distribution to Demoso Township from the Yatanshay substation. Similarly, in Falam Township, Chin State, a 66kV substation, two small hydropower plants, 31 transformers, and power lines were damaged due to terrorist activities. Necessary materials are being transported for repair work. Currently, temporary power is being supplied to Falam Township Hospital using a 12kW solar system and to important locations using 6kW solar systems under a state government plan. A 300kVA diesel generator has been repaired to provide temporary power to important locations. To restore power to Ton Zang town, 12 electricity workers arrived on June 18, 2026, and began surveying the damage and restoration work. Currently, a 300kVA diesel generator has been repaired, supplying electricity for three hours nightly to 11 government offices and about 310 electricity consumers. Coordination is underway with administrative bodies to inspect the 200kW Tui Saung hydropower plant for the resumption of power supply. Due to the efforts of the state government and the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, power has been restored to areas that experienced power outages. This has led to the normalization of daily life for local residents, the resumption of small and medium-sized businesses, local production, and livelihoods, the provision of healthcare services at hospitals and clinics, and significant benefits in the education sector for students. Therefore, the electricity demand of the public is being increasingly met.
