Lam Dong's Lien Khuong International Airport Reopens with Enhanced International Flight Capabilities

Lien Khuong International Airport in Lam Dong province, a key gateway to Vietnam's Central Highlands, is set to resume operations on August 19th, following an extensive five-month renovation of its runway and taxiways. The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is in the final stages of completing the upgrades, with the majority of the main construction work already 100% finished. These improvements significantly enhance the airport's infrastructure, enabling it to accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787. This upgrade serves as a crucial foundation for airlines considering longer-haul international routes and the deployment of larger aircraft. Work on stone drainage, taxiway lighting, power supply systems, and signage is approximately 80% complete. Following final safety inspections by specialized agencies, the airport aims to secure operational permits from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam. Upon reopening, the airport anticipates serving around 36 to 40 flights and approximately 6,800 passengers daily. Key domestic routes to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Vinh, and Hai Phong will be reinstated. For international services, AirAsia is expected to relaunch the Da Lat-Kuala Lumpur route in September. Furthermore, efforts are underway to restore international flights to South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand, with studies also being conducted for new markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and destinations in Japan. Under Vietnam's one-party system, infrastructure development is a cornerstone of national economic growth. Enhancing connectivity to regions rich in tourism potential, like Lam Dong, directly contributes to regional economic revitalization. The strengthening of Lien Khuong International Airport's capabilities is expected to foster tourism and economic development for Lam Dong province and Vietnam as a whole. In its relations with China, while maintaining economic ties, Vietnam also seeks to strengthen relationships with other countries, reflecting its diplomatic strategy amidst security concerns.
