King and Queen Mother Depart for Health Check-up in China

His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia and Her Majesty the Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk departed Cambodia on the morning of September 1, 2026, via special aircraft for a health check-up in Beijing, People's Republic of China. At Techo International Airport, His Excellency Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, Her Excellency Khuon Sodary, President of the National Assembly, and His Excellency Hun Manet, Prime Minister, along with members of the Supreme Royal Council, high-ranking officials, and members of the Royal Family, bid farewell to Their Majesties. His Excellency Wang Wenbin, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cambodia, was also present on the occasion. In a royal message to the nation dated August 30, 2026, His Majesty the King stated: "I, along with Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the most revered mother of the Khmer nation, with the highest respect, seek permission from both Chief Sangharajas and all Venerable Monks, as well as from Their Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, Elders, Aunts, Uncles, Brothers, Sisters, Nephews, and all compatriots, to be absent from the motherland from September 1, 2026, onwards, to travel to the capital city of Beijing, People's Republic of China, for a health check-up. During my absence, His Excellency Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, will assist in the capacity of acting Head of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia."
