Min Aung Hlaing's Thailand trip to focus on river pollution

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin stated on Wednesday that discussions with Min Aung Hlaing will primarily focus on cross-border environmental and security issues, including pollution in the Kra River, agricultural burning, and drug manufacturing. Thavisin made the remarks in Chonburi after concluding an official visit to China, where he said environmental protection issues, including green economic development for greenhouse gas reduction, clean energy, and production that supports environmental conservation, were the main topics of discussion with Chinese leaders. He added that the Thai government is committed to resolving environmental issues, including pollution in the Kra River, which is closely monitored by authorities. Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to make an official visit to Thailand on August 3 and 4. During the visit, Thailand will express its concerns regarding toxic pollutants in the Kra River and seek cooperation with Myanmar to resolve the issue. Cooperation between the two countries is crucial in resolving this issue, as the Kra River originates in Myanmar and flows into Thailand. Discussions are also expected to cover efforts to combat transboundary haze from agricultural burning and issues related to the manufacturing and trafficking of narcotics.
