MANILA, Philippines — Former finance secretary Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez III has joined the board of property giant Megaworld Corp. as lead independent director, bringing decades of experience in government and business. On Tuesday, Megaworld announced the appointment, as the Andrew Tan-led developer continues to grow its footprint across key economic and tourism destinations in the country. Dominguez has more than four decades of experience spanning banking, power, aviation, agriculture, mining, hospitality, real estate and investments. He served as finance secretary from 2016 to 2022, overseeing major economic and fiscal reforms. Earlier in his government career, he also headed the departments of agriculture and environment and natural resources. Dominguez also held senior positions in several Philippine companies before returning to public service. These included serving as chair and president of Philippine Airlines, as well as leadership roles at Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corp., BPI Agricultural Development Bank and RCBC Capital Corp. “We are honored to welcome Sonny Dominguez to Megaworld’s board of directors,” Tan said. “His depth of experience and strategic perspective will be invaluable as the company enters its next chapter of growth.” Megaworld said the appointment would also strengthen its corporate governance, board diversity and independent oversight as it pursues its long-term expansion strategy.
