PNP Ramps Up Rescue Ops Amid Habagat-Triggered Floods

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has mobilized additional personnel and resources to flood-hit communities, ramping up rescue operations as torrential rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” forced residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate. “We made available as many personnel and resources for evacuation and other disaster response,” said PNP chief Gen. The heavy rainfall has caused significant flooding in low-lying areas and along riverbanks across the Philippines, forcing many residents to leave their homes. The PNP is rapidly deploying rescue boats, vehicles, and other relief supplies to affected areas, prioritizing the rescue and relocation of stranded individuals to safer grounds. They are also involved in setting up and managing evacuation centers and distributing food and water to those displaced. However, the current rainfall has been particularly widespread and intense, leading to a considerable increase in damage.
