Cambodia Inspects Four Rural Road Projects to Boost Tourism and Local Livelihoods

His Excellency Dr. Chhay Rithisen, Minister of Rural Development, accompanied by Excellency leaders and technical officials from the ministry, along with the Kampong Speu Provincial Department of Rural Development, on Monday, September 7, 2026, inspected four rural road situations in Kampong Speu province and met with community residents. The four rural road lines include: 1. Road line 1: Gravel road, 8.90 km long, connecting Putrea village at the Te-Tek-Pou Resort to Chambok village, Trapaing Choar commune, Oral district. This road passes through 5 villages: Taniel, Trang, Kaodontei, Putrea, and Chambok, with 550 direct beneficiary households (2,313 people) and 1,150 indirect beneficiary households (6,210 people). 2. Road line 2: Double asphalt road, 4.00 km long, 4 meters wide, the road to Ta Sal Dam, from the gate of Oudom Kiri Jal Sa Pagoda to Ta Sal Dam, Ou Chanh village, Ta Sal commune, Oral district. This road has 120 direct beneficiary households (751 people) and 350 indirect beneficiary households (1,990 people). 3. Road line 3: Red gravel road construction site, with a total length of 7.15 km, starting from Tang Bampong village to the flank of Khlang Chas mountain, at the Damnak Damrei Dam Community Market, Ta Sal commune, Oral district, with 851 direct beneficiary households (3,532 people) and 1,710 indirect beneficiary households (7,730 people). Construction began on March 4, 2026, with a progress of 42.38%, and is expected to be completed in March 2027. 4. Road line 4: Concrete road project, 6 meters wide, 3 kilometers long, from the foot of Khlang Chas mountain to the mountain ridge, planned to be implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development within the framework of the Regional Landscape Sustainability and Natural Tourism Project. Project lines 3 and 4 aim to improve the management of protected natural areas, promote opportunities for natural tourism development and landscape management in protected natural areas, and increase the value chain of forest products in the Cardamom Mountains and Tonle Sap Lake landscape area. His Excellency the Minister and the working group inspected the Te-Tek-Pou natural tourist area, the Ta Sal Dam area, and the Khlang Chas mountain natural tourist area, and met with residents of each community with the aim of studying and understanding the potential in the area and the various needs to facilitate the necessary interventions for development. It should also be noted that, with the high recommendations from His Excellency Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Ministry of Rural Development has cooperated with relevant ministries and institutions to conserve and develop ethnic minority communities, with the aim of improving the livelihoods of the brothers and sisters in the community to have a better life. In this regard, the Ministry of Rural Development contributes through the construction of quality rural road infrastructure, the construction of clean water infrastructure and rural sanitation, as well as basic skills training.
