Cambodia Hosts International Conference on Combating Online Scams

Cambodia hosted the International Conference on Combating Online Scams (ICCOS-2026) from September 23-24, 2026. The conference, held under the theme "Acting Together towards Breaking the Chain and Eradication of Online Scams," aimed to strengthen international cooperation in combating cybercrime. The meeting brought together participants from various provinces across Cambodia, including Phnom Penh, Takeo, Kampong Speu, Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang, Kratie, Poipet, Prey Veng, Siem Reap, Stung Treng, Svay Rieng, Pailin, Preah Vihear, Battambang, Oudor Meanchey, Mondulkiri, Kep, Ratanakiri, Koh Kong, Kampot, Battambang, Preah Sihanouk, and Tbong Khmum. The focus was on addressing the growing complexity and prevalence of online scams. In recent years, online scams have emerged as a significant social issue in Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, driven by rapid digitalization. Cases involving international criminal organizations are particularly prevalent, leading to an expanding scale of victimisation. This international conference provided a crucial platform for law enforcement agencies, technology experts, and policymakers from various countries to convene, share information, exchange best practices, and formulate joint strategies. Discussions at the conference likely covered the evolving tactics of scammers, money laundering, and challenges in international investigative cooperation. The Cambodian government, alongside developing its domestic digital infrastructure, is also focusing on enhancing public cybersecurity awareness. This conference forms part of these broader international efforts. It is anticipated that the recommendations from the meeting will lead to concrete frameworks for international cooperation and the reinforcement of domestic countermeasures.
