Cambodia's Education Sector Achieves High Marks in PISA Assessment, OECD Commends Significant Gains

Cambodia's education sector has demonstrated remarkable progress in the latest Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). According to the PISA results, Cambodian students have shown significant improvements in their scores for science and reading, equivalent to more than two additional years of schooling. The OECD has recognized this positive change as one of the fastest and most unprecedented growth rates on the international stage. The official dissemination of the "Report of the Programme for International Student Assessment 2025 (PISA-2025) for Cambodia" took place on the afternoon of September 8, 2026, at a hotel in Phnom Penh. The event was attended by H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, along with ministry leaders, representatives from development partners, and numerous national and international distinguished guests. Dr. Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills at the OECD, extended his warmest congratulations to the teachers and school leaders across Cambodia for their brilliant success in the recent PISA assessment. He stated that this achievement is of immense value to the nation and has garnered significant international attention. Dr. Schleicher emphasized that "investing in the knowledge and skills of educators and students today is building human capital and establishing a strong economic foundation for the nation's future." This notable improvement in Cambodia's PISA scores further supports the view that the country's enhanced investment in human capital will lead to future economic development.
