Two Swai Rieng Police Officers Suspended Over Alleged $9,000 Bribery

The Ministry of Interior has decided to suspend two police officers from the Economic Crimes Police Department of the Swai Rieng Provincial Police, who are suspected of being involved in corruption by accepting $9,000 from a fabric transporter. The suspended police officers are Colonel Chun Chang, Chief of the Economic Crimes Police Office of the Swai Rieng Provincial Police Commissioner, and Lieutenant Colonel Yon Bonavy, Deputy Chief of the Economic Crimes Police Office of the Swai Rieng Provincial Police Commissioner. The Ministry of Interior stated that the suspension of these two police officers was due to violations of national police discipline. Meanwhile, the Swai Rieng Provincial Police Commissioner's Office reported that the above decision was made after careful investigation by the Disciplinary Council of the Swai Rieng Provincial Police Commissioner's Office, the investigation team of the National Police General Commissariat, and the investigation team of the Ministry of Interior. According to information from sources, the Ministry of Interior's action against the two police officers occurred after the leak of a video clip related to the acceptance of $9,000 from a fabric transporter recently. In connection with this money acceptance, last night, forces from the National Police General Commissariat arrested a man named Sok Thun at a restaurant in Swai Rieng province. This man is known as "Chai Police" and played a role in collecting money from traders and handing it over to the police, and was the recipient of the money from the fabric transporter. Currently, the suspect has been arrested and sent to the General Department of Criminal Law Enforcement of the Ministry of Interior for legal proceedings.
