Cambodian Gendarmerie officials convened on Saturday, September 5, 2026, to discuss security plans for the state visit of Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The meeting focused on national security, public order, and emergency response measures. Led by Lieutenant General Sa Sambothorn, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the National Gendarmerie, under the directive of General Sao Sokha, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander-in-Chief of the National Gendarmerie, the session disseminated reports on the implementation of duties and tasks in August and outlined work objectives for September. In August, the Gendarmerie collaborated to protect national security and maintain safety for the King, Senate, National Assembly, Prime Minister, national and international delegations, significant conferences, state/official visits, inauguration ceremonies for both religious and secular achievements, national holidays, religious festivals, and major celebrations. They also ensured security during the docking of foreign military vessels at Ream Port and Sihanoukville Autonomous Port in Preah Sihanouk Province. Furthermore, Gendarmerie forces participated in efforts to combat online scams, cooperated in locating suspects involved in cyber fraud, assisted in inspecting transportation, provided security for foreigners affected by online scams, and cracked down on human trafficking and drug trafficking cases. The Gendarmerie also contributed to rescuing traffic accident victims, transporting them to hospitals, and aiding citizens affected by natural disasters such as floods, strong winds, and riverbank collapses. The state visit of the high-level Myanmar delegation, led by President Min Aung Hlaing, is scheduled to take place on September 11-12, 2026. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chiefs of Staff, Police Commissioners, Deputy Police Commissioners, heads of specialized departments, and commanders of all units under the National Gendarmerie. Video conferencing connected the meeting to the Gendarmerie Commands of all 25 provinces and capitals, the Gendarmerie Institute of Kumpoul, and the Phnom Chum Sen Rirey Gendarmerie Training Center.
