Cambodian Ministry of Education: Successful Education Not Solely Dependent on Schools, Emphasizes Parental Role

Dr. Peung Kimcheng, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, emphasized that successful education is not solely dependent on schools but requires the participation of parents, who are the 'first educators.' These remarks were made during the closing ceremony of the 2025-2026 academic year for Australian standard international general education, where certificates and commendation letters were awarded to teachers and students at Westland International School in Ta Khmau City, Kandal Province, this past weekend. According to the Undersecretary of State, education starting from early childhood is extremely important. Parents, as the 'first educators,' are the ones who undertake this task first, followed by the schools. He stated that children who begin their education at a young age will immediately absorb and follow what is provided to them, thus, educators must demonstrate good examples for them. Regarding the education sector in Cambodia, Dr. Peung Kimcheng stated that the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport is paying significant attention to reforming the education sector. This is to produce human resources capable of contributing to national development through quality education. This is because for a nation to develop and progress, it needs excellent human resources, meaning citizens with sufficient knowledge to build the nation forward. Therefore, to foster good human resources, or citizens with adequate knowledge, high-level education and training are necessary. In this regard, all schools, whether public or private, play an equally important role in providing quality education to students from primary to higher education levels. The Undersecretary of State considered the expenditure of money by parents and guardians on their children's tuition fees, starting from kindergarten to higher education, as the most important and essential investment for their children's future.
