Tây Ninh Province Breaks Ground on $300M+ Solar Power Plant

Construction has commenced on the Dầu Tiếng 5 solar power plant in Tây Ninh Province, southern Vietnam, an ambitious project with a total investment exceeding VND 7.77 trillion (over $300 million). The facility, boasting a capacity of 562.5 MWp, is projected to supply approximately 808 million kWh of clean electricity annually. The project spans about 645 hectares of semi-submerged land within the Dầu Tiếng Lake area, a location offering favorable solar radiation conditions for power generation. The investment is spearheaded by Công ty Cổ phần Năng lượng DT5.1, a subsidiary of Xuân Cầu Holdings, with commercial operations slated to begin in December 2027. A key highlight of the Dầu Tiếng 5 plant is its early adoption of the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism. According to Tô Dũng, Chairman of Xuân Cầu Holdings, this method provides additional choices for power generators and large electricity consumers, while simultaneously promoting a competitive electricity market. The company anticipates the project will meet the green electricity needs of foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises. The plant will feature an integrated system of high-efficiency photovoltaic panels, distributed inverters, an Energy Storage System (BESS), a 220 kV substation, and transmission lines connecting to the national grid, all designed to enhance operational efficiency and optimize electricity output. Representing the joint contractor, Zhou Jiayi, President of PowerChina's Asia-Pacific headquarters, affirmed the unit's commitment to ensuring project progress, quality, and adherence to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements. "The Dầu Tiếng Lake possesses a valuable water surface and ecosystem, thus we will minimize the impact of construction activities to ensure harmony between infrastructure development and environmental protection," he stated. Lê Văn Hẳn, Chairman of the Tây Ninh Provincial People's Committee, noted that Dầu Tiếng 5 is the largest solar power project by capacity in the province to date. Upon completion, it will not only add clean energy to the national grid but also effectively utilize the semi-submerged areas of Dầu Tiếng Lake, create jobs, boost state revenue, and stimulate related economic sectors. Tây Ninh Province holds significant potential for solar energy development due to its favorable radiation conditions. Xuân Cầu Holdings began its renewable energy investments in the locality in 2018 with the Dầu Tiếng 1, 2, and 3 solar power complex, totaling 500 MW.
