Cambodia Braces for 3 Days of Rain, Gusty Winds, and Thunderstorms

Phnom Penh, July 10, 2026 (AKP) -- The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology announced on the morning of July 10, 2026, that Tropical Depression Bavi (T2609) has intensified into a typhoon and continues to influence the southwest monsoon affecting the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, the Kingdom of Cambodia is not in the direct path of the storm. The Ministry stated that due to this situation, several areas within the Kingdom of Cambodia will be affected for three days, from July 10 to July 12, 2026. The affected areas include: 1. Lowland areas: Average minimum temperature 25°C, average maximum temperature 36°C. Winds from the southwest and northwest will blow at an average speed of 3 meters per second. Siem Reap, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Svay Rieng, Banteay Meanchey, and Battambang provinces may experience rain mixed with gusty winds and thunderstorms covering 15% of the land area. Prey Veng, Pursat, Takeo, Kampot, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Thom provinces, and Phnom Penh capital will not experience rain. 2. Highland areas: Average minimum temperature 24°C, average maximum temperature 35°C. Winds from the southwest and west will blow at an average speed of 3 meters per second. Udor Mean Chey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri provinces, the Dangrek mountain range, and the Cardamom mountain range may experience rain mixed with gusty winds and thunderstorms covering 20% of the land area. Kampong Speu, Pailin, and Mondulkiri provinces will not experience rain. 3. Coastal areas: Average minimum temperature 25°C, average maximum temperature 35°C. Winds from the southwest and southeast will blow at an average speed of 2 meters per second. Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk provinces, and the Bokor mountain range may experience rain mixed with gusty winds and thunderstorms covering 30% of the land area.
