PDIP Urges Jokowi to Aim Higher Than Local Politics

He stated that PDIP's symbol is not a buffalo's head but a white-nosed bull. He also challenged Jokowi to "level up" and appear on the world stage as a former head of state. "If stepping on the buffalo's head is interpreted by the one stepping on it as a symbol of insulting PDIP, hahaha... sorry, PDIP's symbol is not a buffalo's head. PDIP's symbol is a white-nosed bull," Andreas said when contacted on Monday (29/6). Beyond the ritual, Andreas views Jokowi, as a former president, should not be identified solely as a figure within a specific community. He emphasized that a president is a symbol of unity for all societal groups and traditions in Indonesia. According to Andreas, instead of receiving traditional titles, Jokowi, as a former president, should be engaging in international circles. "He should level up, his class should be different. Why should a former president still be playing at the local level, still looking to gain support?" he asked. Jokowi received the title "Baginda Pemuka Bangsa" during a traditional Lampung ceremony at Kedatun Keagungan, Jalan Sultan Haji, Bandar Lampung City, on Saturday (27/6). During the event, Jokowi, seated and wearing traditional attire, stepped on a buffalo's head placed on a red carpet. DPP PSI Chairman Bestari Barus confirmed that the ritual was not at Jokowi's behest but was an act of appreciation from the traditional community in Lampung for his contributions as president. "The ritual was not initiated by Mr. Jokowi. Mr. Jokowi was merely the recipient of the title," Bestari stated when contacted on Monday (29/6). Meanwhile, Lampung traditional figure Mawardi Rahma Harirama, who holds the title Sultan Seghayo Dipuncak Nur, explained that the awarding of traditional titles, or "muakhi," has been an inseparable part of Lampungese culture for thousands of years. "The process of awarding muakhi (traditional titles) has indeed been ongoing for thousands of years in Lampung.
