258 evacuated in Cagayan due to Kiyapo-triggered rains; flood, landslide risks rise

TUGUEGARAO CITY — At least 258 people from 57 families were displaced in Cagayan after heavy rains spawned by Typhoon Kiyapo (international name: Noul) triggered flooding and heightened the risk of landslides in several northern towns, provincial disaster response officials said on Saturday, July 25. A report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) showed the evacuees came from 13 barangays in the towns of Allacapan, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Camalaniugan, and Gonzaga. Of the total, 243 individuals from 54 families are staying in seven evacuation centers, while 15 people from three families have sought temporary shelter with relatives or neighbors. The evacuations were carried out as rivers swelled and flooding threats persisted on Friday despite Typhoon Kiyapo moving away from the country. No casualties have been reported. The PDRRMO said it continues to coordinate with municipal disaster risk reduction and management offices to consolidate reports, while the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and the Task Force Lingkod Cagayan–Quick Response Team (TFLC-QRT) remain on alert to ensure immediate response to emergencies. TFLC stations in Gonzaga, Lal-lo, Ballesteros, and Sanchez Mira have been placed on red alert to enable rapid deployment if needed. Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and follow advisories issued by their local government units, particularly in areas still experiencing heavy rainfall. Several bridges were submerged due to rising floodwaters, including the Taytay–San Isidro Bridge in Baggao and the Nanguillatan Bridge in Peñablanca, disrupting travel in affected areas.
