A lunar eclipse is more than just an astronomical spectacle; it also influences Indonesia's coastal environments through tidal fluctuations. This phenomenon occurs when the Earth, Sun, and Moon align closely, particularly during a full moon when the Earth casts a shadow on the Moon. This alignment causes the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon to act in the same direction, resulting in higher high tides and lower low tides than usual. These extreme tidal changes can bring ecological benefits to coastal ecosystems. During high tides, seawater reaches wider coastal areas, carrying nutrients that invigorate coastal ecosystems and support marine food chains. Tidal currents also help disperse seaweed seeds and coastal organisms, promoting natural regeneration and the formation of new habitats. In the long term, the movement of organisms can contribute to increased biodiversity in coastal regions. However, extreme tides also carry risks. Seawater can exceed normal boundaries, causing inundation known as "banjir rob" (coastal flooding) that damages low-lying settlements and infrastructure. This can disrupt the daily activities of coastal communities, especially fishermen, as well as transportation and economic activities. For instance, during the lunar eclipse on September 7-8, 2025, in Rampa Village, Pulau Laut Utara District, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan, the sea level rose, peaking around 3:00 AM.
