Anak Krakatau Volcanic Ash Disrupts Bandung, Husein Sastranegara Airport Temporarily Closed

JAKARTA - The spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau has impacted flight operations in Bandung, West Java. Consequently, AirNav Indonesia has temporarily closed the airspace of Husein Sastranegara Airport. The closure of Husein Sastranegara Airport commenced at 12:07 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB) and is estimated to reopen at 4:00 PM WIB on September 6, 2026. According to a statement from AirNav Indonesia's Corporate Secretary, the decision was made through NOTAM C1086/26 due to the volcanic ash affecting flight operations in Bandung. Beyond Husein Sastranegara Airport, other airports such as Soekarno-Hatta, Halim Perdanakusumah, Radin Inten II, and Budiarto Airport (WIRR) remain closed under NOTAM C1079/26, with Budiarto Airport expected to reopen at 1:30 PM WIB. Pondok Cabe Airport (WIHP) is also closed based on NOTAM C1080/26, with an estimated reopening at 2:00 PM WIB. These closures bring the total number of airports affected by Anak Krakatau's volcanic ash to six, including Husein Sastranegara, Soekarno-Hatta, Halim Perdanakusuma, Radin Inten II, Budiarto, and Pondok Cabe. AirNav Indonesia, through its Indonesia Network Management Center (INMC), is continuously monitoring the airspace conditions and the spread of volcanic ash. The agency is committed to ensuring flight safety by providing updated aeronautical information according to developments and coordinating with aviation stakeholders to ensure timely dissemination of information regarding airspace status and navigation services.
