Landslide Blocks Key Road in Ilocos Sur Amid Heavy Rains

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur—A massive landslide triggered by heavy rains temporarily blocked a key road connecting several upland communities in Ilocos Sur on Monday morning (Aug. 3), prompting local disaster response officials to conduct immediate clearing operations. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of nearby Salcedo municipality reported that the landslide occurred early in the morning, covering a significant portion of the road with debris. This road is a vital infrastructure for the transportation of essential goods to the local communities and serves as a crucial evacuation route during emergencies. Following the landslide, the MDRRMO immediately dispatched personnel and heavy equipment to the site, working to clear the debris while ensuring safety. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported as a result of the landslide.
