Thai Rescue Teams End Underwater Search in Laos

CHIANG RAI – A major underwater search for a missing person in Laos officially ended on July 7, 2026. Thai rescue teams called off the mission after a full day of searching found no body. The tragic event drew significant attention across the border region. The Sirikorn Chiang Rai Rescue Association led the joint effort. They worked closely with several Northern Thai rescue networks. These groups included the Piyamit Mae Sai Rescue Association and the Saeng Kaeo Phothiyan Rescue Foundation. The search began at 8:00 a.m. and lasted until 3:00 p.m. Divers focused on the area right in front of a local dam. They also checked under large rocks and inside dark underwater caves. During the morning, teams searched four specific zones. The water depth in these areas was between four and six meters. Divers faced many problems, mainly from the highly uneven, rocky riverbed. The family of the missing person guided some of the search efforts. They asked divers to check specific high-risk areas. The rescue units followed these requests to make sure every spot was carefully cleared. In the afternoon, the search moved to two new zones. Divers went back to recheck the deep water areas and rocky underwater caves. They wanted to be completely sure nothing was missed during the first pass. The teams even used boats to constantly churn the water. This method helps bring submerged objects to the surface.
