Cambodia Expands TVET Scholarships for High School Graduates

Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training and Head of the Royal Government Working Group for Kampong Siem District, Kampong Cham Province, met with approximately 600 high school graduates from Kampong Siem District and their guardians on the morning of September 15, 2026, at the Peace Center. During the meeting, he announced the provision of scholarships for students to study at Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions under the Ministry of Labour. Addressing over 1,000 participants, the Minister congratulated all successful students, noting that the high school graduation exam results in Kampong Siem District have shown continuous improvement. In 2026, the pass rate increased to 518 students, including 8 with Grade A (6 females), 23 with Grade B, 105 with Grade C, 180 with Grade D, and 202 with Grade E. He highlighted the key factors contributing to this success, emphasizing the students' own efforts, the support of their parents, and the dedication of their teachers, quoting Prime Minister Hun Manet's statement that "teachers are the wealthy of honor." He also pointed out that peace, social stability, and development have significantly contributed to these results. The current government's "Strategic Pentagon" Phase 1 prioritizes a comprehensive, multi-sectoral, and interconnected political program, particularly focusing on "human capital development." The Minister encouraged students who did not pass the exam not to be discouraged, as TVET programs offer flexibility and responsiveness to the immediate needs of the labor market. These programs are highly valued by employers, providing short-term study leading to clear skills and quick employment. He advised both successful and unsuccessful students on the importance of understanding and seeking proper guidance in building their future, aligning choices with their preferences, dreams, family capabilities, and market demands. He cautioned against choosing fields based on peer influence, urging them to understand themselves, love their chosen profession, and research market information. Furthermore, he encouraged students to understand the value of both learning and practical work as a "gateway to success." This involves gaining good experience, teamwork, and social engagement to build networks and acquire information for more accurate decision-making. He also informed that for students from the three high schools in Kampong Siem District wishing to pursue TVET studies, he would provide scholarships and internship opportunities, enabling them to study and intern concurrently, gain experience, and receive a decent salary.
