SONA 2026: Did Marcos Jr. Address Workers' Concerns?

Public reaction to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s recent State of the Nation Address (SONA) has been mixed, with many workers expressing that their key concerns were not adequately addressed. Tricycle drivers in Quezon City, who watched the SONA on an analog television, highlighted their desire for concrete plans in the transportation sector. While President Marcos mentioned Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), one driver noted they had not received such aid. Another driver voiced disappointment, hoping for more specific proposals on lowering fuel prices amidst looming hikes. However, some positive reception was noted for Marcos' call to remove the systems loss charge in energy bills. The announcement that former Speaker Martin Romualdez will face charges related to the flood control scam also drew favorable responses. Nevertheless, one driver suggested that more individuals implicated in corruption scandals should be held accountable. Even laborers who were unable to watch the SONA due to work also shared a common desire for an end to corruption. Meanwhile, a group advocating for the legalization of medical marijuana expressed hope that Marcos would include their cause in his legislative agenda. Lawyer Henry Enaje of Med Cann PH stated, "Many patients are having a hard time to get access to this as medicine, and the science and evidence are enough to allow this as medicine."
