Vietnam Launches National Child Protection Program for 2026-2030

The Vietnamese government recently issued Decision No. 1415/QĐ-TTg, establishing the National Child Protection Program and the Program to Prevent and Reduce Child Labor for the period 2026-2030 (hereinafter referred to as the Program). The Program identifies the protection of children's rights as a priority in Vietnam's human development strategy. One of its core objectives is to ensure the safety of children, particularly in cyberspace. With the increasing prevalence of the internet and social media, children face growing risks online, necessitating comprehensive measures. Intervention and protection for children in special circumstances or at risk of falling into such situations is another crucial pillar. This includes support for children affected by poverty, deteriorating family environments, abuse, and neglect. Furthermore, the Program emphasizes fostering environmental protection awareness and nurturing compassion among children. This is considered essential for cultivating a sense of responsibility as future citizens. Under Vietnam's one-party system, the promotion of state-led social policies is characteristic. This Program is expected to be implemented under government leadership, in collaboration with relevant ministries, local authorities, and international organizations and NGOs. In a rapidly growing economy like Vietnam, protecting vulnerable children is recognized as an indispensable element for sustainable development. Past initiatives include contributions to child health protection by the Vietnamese peacekeeping force at a field hospital in South Sudan, demonstrating international cooperation in child protection efforts.
