Cambodia to Enhance Cooperation with Indonesia on Cybercrime Countermeasures

Cambodian Interior Minister Sar Sokha discussed the growing threat of cybercrimes, particularly online fraud, with Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arief Havas Oegroseno on July 29, 2026. Both nations agreed to deepen their cooperation in law enforcement and the provision of expertise. During the meeting, the necessity of providing new technical expertise to Cambodian National Police officers was emphasized. Indonesian Deputy Minister Oegroseno stated that by mid-2026, Indonesia will organize training programs for Cambodian police officers focusing on cybercrime investigation, forensic techniques, and financial investigation. This training may take place in Indonesia or involve Indonesian instructors being dispatched to Cambodia. Within the framework of law enforcement cooperation, Deputy Minister Oegroseno expressed gratitude to the Cambodian Ministry of Interior for facilitating the expedited repatriation of Indonesian citizens affected by online fraud. He also acknowledged the ministry's role in allowing consular officials and relatives to visit Indonesian nationals detained in Cambodia's correctional and prison facilities. Furthermore, he highlighted the successful crackdown on criminal locations and the rescue of Indonesian citizens from these sites. The Indonesian side pledged its support and encouragement for Cambodia's efforts in eradicating cyber fraud crimes and establishing stringent legal frameworks, affirming its willingness to testify to the international community about these concrete and realistic endeavors and their outcomes. To address the ever-changing landscape of transnational crimes, especially the evolving nature of cybercrimes, both the Cambodian Interior Minister and the Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister agreed in principle to form a team of experts to discuss and establish a joint working mechanism.
