Coordination for Repatriation : Repatriation for detained Myanmar nationals underway

The Government of Myanmar repatriated a total of 1,086 verified Myanmar nationals who were facing hardship and unable to afford to return to Myanmar after serving their respective sentences in immigration detention camps for illegal stay and violation of immigration regulations were repatriated from Malaysian immigration detention camps by Myanmar naval vessels on humanitarian basis in 2021. Likewise, the relevant Myanmar authorities and Malaysian authorities have coordinated the repatriation of verified 1,476 Myanmar nationals under the same conditions by Myanmar naval vessels on 27 and 28 August. However, the Malaysian side subsequently informed that it would not be convenient to facilitate the Myanmar side's request on the aforementioned dates and proposed to reschedule the dates to 28 and 29 September. Accordingly, Myanmar will re-arrange the repatriation on the proposed dates. The Government of Myanmar has been putting great emphasis on safeguarding the interests of its nationals abroad, and is constantly providing necessary consular assistance and facilitate their repatriation through the relevant Myanmar embassies and Consulates-General to help and assist Myanmar nationals who are facing difficulties and hardships in foreign countries for various reasons
