Revenge for 11 Years: Surabaya Man Arrested for Killing Mother's Murderer
A 27-year-old man from Surabaya has been arrested for allegedly killing a fisherman who murdered his mother 11 years ago. The suspect was apprehended within seven hours of the crime and faces potential charges of premeditated murder.
A 27-year-old man from Surabaya, identified by the initials AN, has been arrested for allegedly committing murder as an act of revenge against the fisherman who killed his mother 11 years ago. The victim was identified as M. Hasan, 53, a fisherman from Sampang, Madura. AN reportedly killed Hasan in Dharma Camplong village, Sampang, using a 33 cm long sickle. Police apprehended AN just seven hours after the crime on Saturday (September 12). According to Sampang Police Chief AKBP Anang Hardiyanto, the motive for the murder was revenge for an incident that occurred years ago. AN confessed that Hasan had previously killed his mother in 2015 and served time in prison. After Hasan's release, AN harbored a deep-seated grudge and spent approximately a month monitoring Hasan's activities. AN had meticulously studied Hasan's routines, including his work as a fisherman, the location where his boat docked, and where he parked his motorcycle. On the day of the incident, AN observed Hasan returning from fishing and heading to his motorcycle. He then ambushed Hasan from behind, repeatedly striking him with the sickle on the head and back until he collapsed. AN fled the scene after the attack. Although locals attempted to help Hasan, he could not be saved. Police initiated an investigation, including a crime scene examination and witness interviews, leading to AN's arrest within seven hours. AN is expected to be charged under Article 459 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, facing potential penalties including the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
