Suspect in Bali Bar Shooting Arrested at Jakarta Airport

Bali, Indonesia - Police have arrested a suspect in a shooting incident at a nightclub in the popular tourist area of Canggu, Bali, at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The suspect, identified by the initial H, was apprehended on Saturday night (July 18) shortly after arriving in Jakarta. The shooting occurred early Friday morning (July 17) at The Shady Pig bar, injuring a 32-year-old security guard (initial IMYM) and a 25-year-old Chinese national (initial EA). Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, acting spokesperson for the Badung Police, confirmed the incident, stating it is suspected to be a severe assault using a firearm or a shooting incident. According to reports, the incident began when the suspect H and the victim EA engaged in an argument. When the security guard IMYM intervened to break up the dispute and stood directly in front of EA, the suspect H fired his weapon. The bullet reportedly penetrated IMYM's back, hitting EA behind him, with the projectile remaining lodged in EA's thigh. Both victims are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital. Following the incident, H did not immediately leave Bali but reportedly went into hiding before flying to Jakarta from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Police initiated a manhunt shortly after the incident. H's escape was thwarted through coordination between the North Kuta Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, and the Immigration Office. After his arrest in Jakarta, H was flown back to Bali, arriving at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport's domestic terminal in the early hours of Sunday (July 19).
