Sen Sok District Admin Cleans Drainage System, Finds Numerous Concrete-Blocked Manholes

In Phnom Penh, the Sen Sok District administration has commenced drainage system cleaning and restoration operations since the morning of September 11th. In collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Transport of Phnom Penh City, the district is deploying vehicles and heavy machinery to open manhole covers, clear accumulated soil, garbage, and other waste within the drainage system. This initiative aims to facilitate water flow and prevent flooding during periods of heavy rainfall. The drainage system cleaning operations are being conducted along Wat Samrong Andet Road in Krung Thmey Village, Ta Chet Road in Rong Chhngar Village, and a section of Street 1019, all within the Kok Khleang Commune of Sen Sok District. Specialized vehicles and heavy machinery are being utilized to remove the blockages, thereby improving water flow and reducing the risk of inundation in certain areas of the district. During the restoration and cleaning process, the team discovered that several manholes along Krung Thmey Village road had been sealed with concrete. This situation poses a significant obstacle to water drainage, preventing the system from functioning optimally. The obstruction causes slow water flow, which could lead to flooding when substantial rainfall occurs. In light of these findings, the working team has appealed to residents in the local communities to participate in maintaining the manholes and drainage systems in front of their homes. They specifically request cooperation during rainy seasons to inspect and clear any debris that might obstruct the manholes, ensuring swift water flow into the drainage network.
