Cambodia Distributes Over 1 Million Seedlings to Promote Greening Amidst Major Environmental Expo in Capital
Phnom Penh, Cambodia – A major "Green Spokes" environmental exhibition, hosted by the Ministry of Environment, is underway in the capital, distributing over one million tree seedlings. The initiative aims to raise public environmental awareness and supports the government's goal of distributing five million seedlings nationwide by 2026.
A historically significant "Green Spokes" environmental exhibition is taking place in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, from July 10th to 13th, 2026. On the second day, July 11th, the exhibition continued to attract strong participation, with civil servants, students, and the general public visiting in large numbers to receive and plant a variety of seedlings. Over one million mixed seedlings, including premium wood species (such as Beng, Niang Noun, Kroung, and Thnung), fruit trees, ornamental plants, and young palm trees, have been prepared for continuous distribution at the "Green Spokes" 2026 exhibition in Phnom Penh. His Excellency Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, and his wife, participated again to encourage and interact with attendees on the second day of the "Green Spokes" exhibition. The Minister stated that participation in the "Green Spokes" exhibition is a testament to the influential solidarity that underscores environmental protection not as the sole responsibility of the Ministry of Environment, but as a shared duty of every Cambodian citizen. He emphasized that this event is not merely a display of seedlings but a manifestation of hope, a spirit of responsibility, and the foundation for Cambodia's green future. It is noted that the Ministry of Environment has formulated a plan in line with the Environmental Sector Strategy and the policies and strategies of the Royal Government led by Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. This includes nurturing seedlings at environmental departments in all provinces across the country and at five regional nurseries established in Tbong Khmum, Siem Reap, Kampong Speu, Mondulkiri, and Koh Kong provinces. The goal is to distribute five million seedlings nationwide in 2026. In addition to seedling distribution, this year's event also marks the announcement and launch of a campaign to plant one million palm trees.
