ASEAN Observers Inspect Cambodia-Thailand Border Near Boundary Marker 37
Cambodia's Ministry of National Defense announced that the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT-KH) inspected the area near Cambodia-Thailand border marker 37 on August 4, 2026. The observation aimed to understand the border situation and highlight Cambodia's commitment to peaceful resolution.
The Ministry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia announced that on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 09:21 AM, the Coordination Liaison Group (CLG) of the Kingdom of Cambodia facilitated the ASEAN Observer Team–Cambodia (AOT-KH), led by the Head of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT KH HOM) from the Republic of the Philippines, to conduct an observation, verification, and reporting mission along the Cambodia-Thailand border at boundary marker number 37 (Unity Marker), located in Kdeab Thmei village, Kok Romet commune, Thma Pouk district, Banteay Meanchey province. The purpose of this observation was to provide the ASEAN observers with a comprehensive and firsthand understanding of the situation in the border area. It also served to demonstrate the stance of the Cambodian government, which consistently adheres to resolving border issues peacefully through discussions and bilateral mechanisms, in accordance with international law, existing bilateral agreements, and the mandate of the Joint Border Commission (JBC). Cambodia maintains a firm position in defending the Cambodia-Thailand international border line inherited from the Indochina-Siam Border Commission. This commitment respects the principles of international law, the principle of immutable borders (Uti Possidetis Juris), the French-Siam Convention, border demarcation protocols, maps resulting from the demarcation work of the Indochina-Siam Border Commission, meeting minutes, border post establishment records, the 2000 MOU, the 2003 TOR, and other relevant agreements and documents that both parties have previously agreed upon. The aim is to resolve disputes peacefully and achieve lasting peace between the two countries.
