Daihatsu Mira e:S 2026 Launched in Japan, Limited Impact Expected on Vietnam Market

Daihatsu has launched the new Mira e:S (2026 model) for the Japanese domestic market, featuring improvements in fuel efficiency and safety technologies. This new version of the compact hatchback aims to enhance its appeal while maintaining an accessible price point. While the exterior and interior design remain largely unchanged since the model's second generation in 2017, the 2026 Mira e:S introduces two new exterior paint colors: Ceramic Green Metallic and Grace Brown Crystal Mica. Additionally, LED headlights are now standard on the X and X Limited variants. The most significant update is to the 660cc three-cylinder gasoline engine. Daihatsu reports that the front-wheel-drive (FWD) version achieves an average fuel consumption of 3.7 liters per 100 km, an 8% improvement over the current model. While specific figures for increased power and torque have not been disclosed, the previous engine produced 48 horsepower and 57 Nm of torque. The car is equipped with a CVT transmission and is available in FWD or four-wheel-drive (4WD) configurations. Safety standards have also been upgraded with the addition of the latest ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) package, similar to other Daihatsu models. The collision avoidance braking system has been enhanced to detect bicycles, oncoming vehicles when turning right at intersections, and pedestrians approaching from the opposite direction when turning. Nighttime pedestrian detection is now standard, and the system's maximum operating speed has been increased from 60 km/h to 80 km/h. The start suppression system, integrated into both the front and rear of the vehicle, now includes active brake control to minimize collisions during low-speed parking. The stereo camera system has been augmented with Roadside Departure Warning and Sway Warning functions. An optional Smart Drive Recorder Upgrade Package allows the system to function as a dashcam. The Mira e:S product line has been simplified with the discontinuation of the base B variant and the replacement of the top-tier G version with the new X Limited variant. The X Limited is based on the mid-range X trim and adds convenience features such as push-button start, smart key entry, heated front seats, driver's seat height adjustment, tilt steering wheel, automatic climate control, and power-folding mirrors.
