Cambodia Sees 10% Drop in Air Passengers, but Cargo Surges 17%

Cambodia's three international airports – Techo, Siem Reap Angkor, and Sihanoukville – handled a total of 4,159,753 passengers from January to August this year, marking a 10% decrease compared to the same period last year. The number of outgoing and incoming flights also saw a 1% decline, totaling 42,189 flights. In contrast, air cargo volume experienced a significant surge of 17%, reaching 66,559 tons. This indicates a robust growth in trade and investment within Cambodia. Overflight traffic also increased by 7%, with 61,620 flights recorded. For the month of August alone, the three airports reported stable operations, with 4,941 outgoing and incoming flights. Passenger traffic stood at 447,114, a 1% increase from July, while air cargo remained stable at 9,456 tons. Overflight traffic in August rose by 2% to 8,407 flights. Currently, 33 airlines operate in Cambodia, comprising 4 national carriers and 29 international airlines. Techo International Airport handled the largest share, with 3,518 flights, 342,437 passengers, and 9,376 tons of cargo. Siem Reap Angkor International Airport managed 1,136 flights, 85,024 passengers, and 81 tons of cargo. Sihanoukville International Airport recorded 269 flights and 18,809 passengers, with no cargo handled. The new Dara Sakor Airport saw 18 flights and 844 passengers. His Excellency Sin Chansereyvutha, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, noted that despite the slight decrease in air passenger numbers, the substantial increase in air cargo volume highlights the potential of Cambodia's trade and investment sectors, serving as a driver for national economic growth.
