Vietnam Reaffirms Support for Cambodia's New Leadership

HANOI, July 29, 2026 (KPT) — Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has reaffirmed his country’s unwavering support for Cambodia under the leadership of Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet, during talks with National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sudary in Hanoi. Le Minh Hung welcomed the Cambodian delegation on Tuesday, describing the visit as a demonstration of the enduring friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the neighbours. He said Vietnam would continue to back Cambodia’s development and expressed confidence the country would achieve its national goals under the Cambodian People’s Party. The two sides also pledged to strengthen economic cooperation, investment, connectivity and the implementation of bilateral agreements. Le Minh Hung called for more high‑level exchanges and closer institutional cooperation, and promised support for Cambodia’s efforts to develop small and medium‑sized enterprises, encourage Vietnamese investment and advance joint projects. He thanked Cambodia for its cooperation in the search for and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese soldiers who died in Cambodia. Samdech Khuon Sudary said the meeting reflected the close relationship between the two countries, built on “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive strategic cooperation and long‑term stability.” She briefed the prime minister on earlier meetings with General Secretary and State President To Lam and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, noting both sides had agreed to deepen cooperation between their legislatures, governments and local authorities.
