Thang Long-Hanoi Festival Opens, Blending Tradition and Modernity to Acclaim

The 2026 Thang Long-Hanoi Festival grandly opened on the evening of September 11. The meticulously crafted performances and songs about Hanoi, specially composed for the festival, continue to resonate deeply in people's hearts even after its conclusion. The festival aims to create a space rich in identity and artistic expression. The opening ceremony featured prominent artistic troupes from various regions, including the Ho Chi Minh City Hat Boi Theatre, showcasing Vietnam's diverse traditional arts. Last year's festival attracted approximately 200,000 visitors, and high expectations are placed on this year's event. General Director Pham Hoang Giang expressed his ambition, stating, "I want to tell the story of our heritage through modern stage art." This event offers a unique experience where Hanoi's history and contemporary culture intersect, aiming to enhance citizens' interest in culture and serve as an opportunity to promote the city's appeal both domestically and internationally. Under Vietnam's one-party system, cultural events are also utilized as means to foster national unity, patriotism, and strengthen urban identity.
