AI Summary

Gia Lai Province recorded nearly VND1 trillion (approximately $40 million) in tourism revenue during the five-day National Day holiday, a significant increase from the previous year. The Quy Nhon area was a major draw, boosting the province's prospects for hosting the National Tourism Year next year.

Gia Lai Province, located in Vietnam's Central Highlands, recorded a landmark achievement during the five-day National Day holiday (August 29 - September 2), attracting 513,000 tourists and generating VND985 billion (approximately $40 million) in tourism revenue. This represents a significant increase of 48% in tourist arrivals and 47% in revenue compared to the same period last year, bringing the province's tourism income close to the trillion-dong mark. The coastal city of Quy Nhon and its surrounding areas continued to be a major draw for visitors. Occupancy rates at hotels in the central and coastal regions reached 85-95%. In western Gia Lai, attractions such as Bien Ho Lake, Dai Doan Ket Square, Pleiku Museum, Chu Dang Ya volcano, and community-based tourism sites were popular, with average occupancy rates in the region's hotels at 45-50%, and 75-80% in the central areas. Improved transportation infrastructure also played a crucial role in attracting tourists. Leveraging the two airports, Phu Cat and Pleiku, over 130 flights operated during the holiday, connecting the province with domestic and international destinations. The railway service also added nine extra trains to accommodate the peak season. Gia Lai Province is slated to host the National Tourism Year in 2026, with plans for over 200 cultural, sports, and tourism events throughout the year. The province aims to welcome 15 million tourists and generate over VND35 trillion in revenue by 2026. The success during the National Day holiday is expected to provide a strong impetus towards achieving these annual targets. As of the end of July this year, the province had already welcomed over 10 million tourists, earning more than VND23 trillion. Furthermore, numerous cultural and sports activities are scheduled for September. A highlight will be the 7th VnExpress Marathon Quy Nhon on September 13, offering runners an opportunity to experience the beauty of one of Vietnam's premier coastal cities. Tens of thousands of tourists are expected to visit Gia Lai during the event, combining running with sightseeing and local experiences. Source: VnExpress
